5 FUN HOLIDAY DATE IDEAS

Covid has made life unbelievably difficult, we have found ourselves stuck indoors for majority of 2020. Today i’m here to tell you, you can make the best out of this horrible situation we are in. I personally have gained a lot of insight in the last 8 months, one of the biggest lessons being less is MORE. That being said, having a two year old at home hasn’t allowed much time for my husband and I to enjoy or partake in our time together. So one day I found myself looking for ways that can allow our two year old to partake whilst enjoying ourselves. Here are a fews ways you can do that during this time of year the best time, read on for more details.

1. CHRISTMAS MOVIE NIGHT

There is nothing more romantic than spending an evening with your love…actually there is one thing better than that.. and it’s watching Christmas Movies. Home Alone will never be canceled never ever, can we just agree already at how good christmas movies make us feel inside, great moving on (haha) . As times have it right now we are currently in a pandemic, so there is a mandate for all of us to stay indoors as much as humanly possible. One thing I’ve learned about planning an evening that needs to be differentiated than your regular evening sitting on the couch eating potato chips is planning it right. Planning an evening to add details that make it so much more special is vital. I’ve listed a guide below to help you plan your evening the right way.

A list of movies to get you started:

1. HOME ALONE
2. THE GRINCH
3. IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE
4. THE POLAR EXPRESS
5. THE CHRISTMAS CHRONICLES
6. ELF
7. KLAUS
8. A CHRISTMAS CAROL
9. NATIONAL LAMPOON’S CHRISTMAS
10. LOVE ACTUALLY
11. THE HOLIDAY

Write a list

Your list could include, your groceries and anything else you might need.

Set up you

Setting up the evening really sets the mood, it will allow for things to feel a little bit more realistic.

Allotted Time

Don’t rush the evening, start the evening with dinner for two than work your way through to a few drinks, by that I mean a cup of tea with biscuits than work your way down, allowing for plenty of time in-between it all.

2. CHRISTMAS TREE HUNTING

Christmas tree hunting can be something the whole family takes part in that is if you have children, or if it’s just you and your partner it is still a must. This is a great idea for an outing date since indoors is not allowed this holiday season, if you head up to a tree farm there is plenty of space allowing you to keep 6 feet without having to stress about it. I did this for the first time last year, we took our 1 and a half year old with us along with my older step son and his friends it was so much fun. The kids did a scavenger hunt, we searched for what felt like forever for the perfect tree that we ALL loved. Here are a few things that will best prepare you for this outing, should you decide to go.

Tips for Christmas Tree Hunting:

Keep warm, its a lot more enjoyable if you’re prepared to be outdoors in the cold for 2+ hours.

Bring cash, a lot of the tree farms are small owned businesses by farmers and their families, bringing cash allows you to support them and also buy little treats like hot chocolate, pies and gifting items that you can take home with you.

Be equipped with all the necessary tools you will need to have a Tree tied up to your car, ropes, blankets and anything else you think you might need.

Depending on when you go to the farm make sure you look it up online ahead, incase they have any wait times, line ups and any other requirements you should know about.

Eat before hand, make sure you’re not starving before you get to the tree farm this way you don’t have to be hangry and ruin the day for yourself and everyone.

Lastly, ENJOY happy tree hunting!

3. ICE SKATING

I had to share this image of the hubs and I on the ice from a few years back, we were at our Uncle Pauls place. Uncle Paul makes his own rink every year and has been doing it for years on, so it’s always a blast when we get to make our way down. It’s a good sized rink, for a little hockey game and some skating for the girls, it’s actually perfect for the climate we live in now, you know since Covid is a real thing, private rink.

SHOP THE LOOK

I’m sure you guessed this would be on the list, skating is a must during the Holidays, especially with your significant other. What could be more romantic than holding hands, bundled up with Christmas lights all around you along with Christmas music blaring and just skating on the ice? nothing?…YES, nothing at all. This scene is one of those things, hallmark movies sell you every single Christmas. It is so swoon worthy when the big kiss happens on the ice or where all the quirky scenes of the two main characters take place.

4. BAKING

Baking is fun, it allows for plenty of conversations to flow and if you’re a new couple this gives you the opportunity to get to know each other. So who is up for some baking? getting messy is part of the fun and romance.

5. GO SEE THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

This is probably one of the things my family loves to do, around the city there are plenty of places that have Christmas lights set up. It is such a beautiful sight, walking through a neighbourhood, a Christmas market and seeing the lights all done up. Christmas scenery has a way of making you feel like you’ve transported to an entirely new place, just like the chronicles of Narnia, it quite literally feels like opening a wardrobe walking through it to a magical land.

I know many of us might be in long term relationships and this list might not be appealing to all but I say think again, consciously choosing to do something out of the ordinary might feel strange at first but you’ll both be glad you’ve switched it up, and chose to do something different. That being said, for me there is nothing I enjoy more than being able to spend quality time with my Hubs, yes even after the year we have had but being able to switch it up has also been a vital necessity for our relationship, so I say yes to fresh ideas and pinterest boards.
